Following the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between Iranian Institute of Materials and Energy and the University of Technology, Malaysia (UTM), a joint research project has presently been started between Iran and Malaysia with the aim of identifying the root causes of air pollution in the capitals of the two countries, she maintained.
She pointed out that this MoU is valid for five years and is extendible upon mutual consent.
The project commissioner of this research project added, “researchers in the Iranian Institute of Materials and Energy and University of Technology, Malaysia (UTM) will discuss research plan in the field of comparative study of air pollutants both in Kuala Lumpur and Tehran comprehensively.”
This research plan has been implemented and approved at the initiative taken by the International Deputy Office of the Iranian Institute of Materials and Energy, she noted.
Regarding Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, she said, “like many other metropolitans in the world, Kuala Lumpur suffers from different pollutants and this comparative study is carried out for the first time in Iran due to the difference of origin of air pollutants both in Kuala Lumpur and Tehran.”
Air pollution in Malaysia is deep rooted in Sumatra forest wildfire in a way that the severity of pollutants in this Asian country is increasing, she said, adding, “University of Technology, Malaysia (UTM) was founded in 1934 which is the most important and prestigious academic center in Malaysia in a way that each year, the name of this university is listed among the world’s most prestigious academic centers.”
The Iranian Institute of Materials and Energy, affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, is located in Meshkin Dasht of Fardis, Alborz province.
